Readathon Wrap Up

I am feeling a little dehydrated this morning, so the plan is lots of water, some football, laundry and the Texas Book Festival.

End of Event Meme:

Which hour was most daunting for you?

1 AM. Once I got over that, I was good until 4!

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

This was my first readathon. I thought it was great overall.

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

My favorite part was connecting with people via Twitter. It really did feel like I was a part of a community and I found some new blogs I want to read.

How many books did you read?

4

What were the names of the books you read?

The Day The Music Died - Ed Gorman

Don’t Stop Now – Julie Halpern

Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazzo Vittorio – Amara Lakhous

Nightshade (The Poison Diaries #2) – Maryrose Wood

Which book did you enjoy most?

Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazzo Vittorio

Which did you enjoy least?

I liked them all!

If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

I was not a cheerleader, but I think they all did a wonderful job!

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

I definitely plan to participate again as a reader and I would like to give cheerleading a try too!

Readathon!

2:55 AM

I just finished my 4th book, but it wasn’t Dominance. I was finding that one a little hard to stay awake for, so I switched to Nightshade, Poison Diaries #2
by MaryRose Wood. I got caught up in the plot right away and it was fun quick read. Now, I am going to go read in bed - not sure what I will be reading. And I am sure I will be asleep in no time! The readathon has been a lot of fun. I feel like I was part of a community and I loved reading all day!

10:26 PM

My 4th book is Dominance by Will Lavender. I have only read about 50 pages. I took a break for some Ghost Adventures. Now, I am sleepy. I am planning to read more and hoping for second wind!

5:56 PM

Book #3 is complete. Getting something to eat and picking out #4 now.

2:46 PM

I finished my second book and took a little nap! I enjoyed the book - especially the interesting places on the road trip. The Penny part of the plot was a little weak to me, but I liked how Josh and Lillian sorted out the issues of starting their adult lives.

So next up - Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazzo Vittorio (131 pgs) by Amara Lakhous.

11:00 AM

Finally finished with my first book! It was a fun read. Love the historical references.
I will definitely be checking out more in the series. Next up, Don’t Stop Now (224 pgs) by Julie Halpern.

9:20 AM

Reading slower than I had hoped - but about half way through The Day the Music Died, enjoying it. One teenage son is awake and in a great mood - thank goodness for small blessings! I going to move to the front porch now that the sun is up.

7:15 AM

I am awake and about ready to start reading!

1)Where are you reading from today?

Austin, Texas

2)Three random facts about me…

I have 4 children, 3 of whom will be home today while I read and 1 is away at college.

I love Diet Dr. Pepper.

I have 4 tattoos.

3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

I am starting with The Day the Music Died (212 pgs) by Ed Gorman. I have a pile of books to choose from today, but have not planned exactly what I am reading. I am hoping to read at least 4.

4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

This is my first readathon so I am not sure what to expect. My goal is to read a lot!

Yay! Time to read!

The Beginning

I have recently become somewhat obsessed with reading book review blogs. I have found so many interesting books through these blogs, many of which I would never have heard of otherwise. I have even developed an appreciation of Young Adult books! As it likely the case with many readers of book review blogs, I have thought about doing my own blog. I am hesitant - about the time commitment, whether I have anything worth saying, all those insecure kinds of thoughts. So, I am going to give it a go, but on a small scale. I don’t even really know where to start!

I have read 94 books so far this year. Many more than the past few years. Most, possibly all, are fiction. I think my favorite book of the year so far is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Love love love. I have a Goodreads profile with all the books I have read this year, plus others. This is the first year I have kept track of each book I have read.

To kick off this little experiment, I am participating in The Dewey Readathon tomorrow. I will be updating here as I read. It will be interesting to see how much I get read since I will have a house full of family. My time starts at 7AM, so I will be back around then!
